Everyone wants to be healthy, Happy and Wise. This applies as much to food as to anything else. The relationship between food and health is widely acknowledged, although not clearly understood. If health were the only consideration, most people would be vegetarians, since vegetarians are known to live longer and healthier lives. Unfortunately, many people assume there is a large gap between a pure vegetarian diet and a pleasure derived from eating. Being habituated to eating meat, many people are afriad to loose the taste of meat and its food value by adopting a vegetarian diet.
Modern trends toward vegetarianism are part of the new age lifestyle being adopted in all parts of the world. Each year thousands of people are turning to vegetarian foods to improve their lives. It is interesting to note that the ancient Vedic civilization was vegetarian and its kings were the greatest and most powerful of all time. According to modern historians, this great civilizatoon has existed for at least six thousand years; it is the only ancient civilization still intact today. The recipes located in the later part of this book came from these great people. These were the same preparations that were eaten by great kings and sages.
I, being his disciple, requested Swamiji to put this books together from my ardent desire to help others toward a more healthy lifestyle. By sharing the philosophy of vegetarianism we hope that others will incorporate this into their lives.
